New collaboration increases access to practical nurse program

Lakeland College and Northern Lakes College are working together to increase student access to practical nurse training.

Northern Lakes College (NLC) will offer the practical nurse program at Lakeland College’s Lloydminster campus. While courses are offered primarily online, the lab component of the program will feature face-to-face instruction at the Lloydminster campus.

Lakeland College has health labs in place that are used by Lakeland’s health care aide students. Students will have access to many of Lakeland’s amenities such as residence, athletics, recreation and wellness services.

“We’re pleased to work with Northern Lakes College to provide another program option for people in our region who want to pursue careers in the health sector,” says Alice Wainwright-Stewart, president of Lakeland College.

“Northern Lakes College has a number of collaborative partnerships and is very happy to be working with Lakeland College in delivering the practical nurse program,” says Ann Everatt, president and CEO of NLC. “The success rate of NLC’s practical nurse students is high and with the increasing demand for LPNs we anticipate this program to fill quickly.”

A maximum of 32 practical nurse students will be accepted into the September 2017 intake. In addition to courses and labs, students are required to complete 4 practicums during the 2-year diploma program. Students will be able to enrol in year one of the program every second year.
