Accounting technician program coming to Wainwright

Lakeland College has once again partnered with Wainwright Economic Development and Wainwright Adult Learning to offer credit programming in Wainwright.

Lakeland’s one-year accounting technician certificate program is expected to begin this September.

“We are thrilled to offer programming to our neighbour once again,” says Brad Onofrychuk, Lakeland’s dean of the School of Business and Continuing Education. Lakeland delivered the health care aide program at the Wainwright Health Centre during the 2016-17 academic year. “This is an excellent opportunity for us to continue working with community partners to help residents get job-ready skills that employers need.”

Classes for this blended eight-month program will take place in Wainwright on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, plus every other weekend from September to April 2018. There will be one online course each semester.

Lakeland College is hosting a program information session on Wednesday, June 7 from 7- 9 p.m. at the Wainwright Communiplex, located at 700–2 Ave. For more information contact Kayleigh Schmid, Lakeland enrolment specialist, at 1.800.661.6490, ext. 5429, or email kayleigh.schmid@lakelandcollege.ca. To register, visit lakelandcollege.ca/wwac.

Much like the health care aide program, pending demand the accounting technician program could be offered in Wainwright every two or three years.

“As for the future, we’ll continue to examine programs we can provide in Wainwright. These offerings will be about addressing the needs of the community, a community we look forward to working with well into the future,” says Onofrychuk.
