Apprentices a click away from class registration

Registering for apprenticeship technical training at Lakeland College can now be done online.

As always, apprentices will log into their MyTradesecrets account to access class registrations. But now when they select Lakeland College, they can connect to an online class registration system.

There’s still a manual registration option for apprentices, but Dave King, dean of Lakeland’s School of Trades and Technology, expects that most people will register online.

“It’s a digital world so this is a service that apprentices will welcome. We value their time, and with this online process they can register, pay and have their class intake confirmed within minutes,” says King.

Lakeland worked with Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training to implement the online option.

Last July NAIT became the first post-secondary institution in Alberta to offer online class registration for apprentices. Lakeland along with SAIT, Medicine Hat College and Red Deer College introduced digital sign up this spring.

“By moving to an online system, all an apprentice needs to register is access to the internet. They can also change classes, withdraw, and add or remove themselves from any of our class waitlists, all while avoiding line-ups, phone calls and the uncertainty that comes with the wait. They’re going to find it very convenient,” says Allen Verbeek, dean, student services and registrar at the college.

Lakeland offers nine Alberta apprenticeship programs at the Vermilion campus.
