Unique Combination of Emergency Medicine & FirefightingYou're ready to be a first responder. So prepare for a hot job in fire service or pre-hospital care by studying both emergency medical response and firefighting in this only full-time diploma course in Canada.
Start with core training in both emergency medical and firefighting, then specialize in one of the two. Our fire program curriculum exceeds National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) requirements including more practice runs and hands-on activities. Program graduates are eligible to write provincial International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) and ProBoard certfication exams.
In the medical concentration
Our curriculum matches the National Occupational Competency Profile. That's supplemented with strong hands-on experience with EMT theory (self-study and in-class) and labs, clinical rotation, ambulance practicum and hospital practicum. All are meant to give you practice in critical incident stress management and clinical skills.
In the fire concentration
After learning and practicing on our live training field, you'll go on a fire station practicum. This supports your practical knowledge and professional qualifications as a fire department vehicle driver, fire inspector, public fire and life safety educator, and fire service instructor.
Note: The program is offered in an accelerated, or continuous, format from February through to the next February. This includes the practicum component from approximately Nov to Feb.
