Pre-employment Welder Vermilion Campus
Launch Your CareerUse your hand and eye coordination, creativity and ability to concentrate on detailed work in the welding trade.
Welding uses heat to melt and fuse metals together. You'll use different processes and fillers depending upon the type of metal being fused. Often you'll work from a blue print or work order to complete a project.
You don't need to be a registered apprentice to take our pre-employment program. You learn about the trade, get a practicum and can challenge the 1st period exam.
Being an apprentice means you learn on the job as well as during the required training periods. A welding apprenticeship period is three years including a minimum of 1,500 hours of on-the-job training and eight weeks of technical training for each period.
For more information on the welding trade, check the Alberta Apprenticeship and Training website.
Welder is one of 9 trades offered at Lakeland College’s trades centre. You’ll learn in modern facilities and in small classes from instructors geared to your success.
