Parts Technician - Overview
As a parts technician you manage, give out and sell parts. This could be for a variety of businesses including
- automotive
- heavy and industrial equipment
- farm implement
- recreational vehicle
- jobber
- plumbing
- electrical.
You may be responsible for handling stock, identifying and cataloguing parts as well as ordering, receiving, inspecting, sorting and pricing.
Your apprenticeship is 3 years. You have a 6-week technical training period in years 1 & 3 and 8-weeks in year 2. Each year has a minimum of 1,500 hours of on-the-job training.
Parts technicians typically work indoors, although the setting is more warehouse than office. Be comfortable working with a calculator and computers.
1st & 3rd Period Online | ||||||
Lakeland College offers 1st period and 3rd period parts apprenticeship training online. Unlike traditional training when the apprentice comes to Lakeland for 6-weeks, the online program has flexible entry and exits.
