So, Now You're a College Instructor

Whether you are new to teaching at college level, or new to Lakeland College, our one week faculty orientation will get you ready for the classroom.

This workshop, designed for faculty , is highly interactive, very informative and a great introduction to the rewarding career as a Lakeland College instructor.

You'll be learning from your colleagues as all sessions are facilitated by experienced Lakeland College instructors from all of our departments.  You'll be introduced to both of our campuses.

Your week will focus on best practices and preparation for the challenges of the academic year.  Topics range from the first day of class to classroom management to introductions to our learning management system. (See drop downs for session topics).

You'll also plan and deliver 2 practice lessons.

These are some of the comments from the 2015 faculty orientation participants.

  • "Thrilled with the opportunity to connect with others and looking forward to keeping the connections"
  • "This was a great week, it most certainly got my creativity flowing and my desire to do just that much better"
  • "The practice sessions and BOPPS model was very useful.  As a University instructor before, I never had any formal training and created my own style that matches perfectly with Vermilion College. Great to see how I fit in"
  • "The practice teaching was extremely valuable for me"
  • "I appreciated being able to present in front of my peers and a facilitator and the feedback I received was extremely valuable in both boosting my confidence and giving me ideas to improve my lessons"
  • "Networking - learned a lot about teaching.  Highly valued the practice teaching more than just practicing for myself, but to see how others do it and to get ideas - I'm actually glad that I took it after my first year of teaching because I see how it can directly apply"
