There are many things you need to do before you leave for Canada--book your travel, pack what you need.
Once you've booked your flight, let your Lakeland College contact know when you plan to arrive. Also, please send us a copy of your approved student permit.

- Once your visa permit is approved, please send a copy of the permit to your contact at Lakeland College.
- If you are booking your flight around the scheduled shuttle times, please let your contact know your flight details.1
1If you can't book your flight for a scheduled shuttle date, you must arrange your own transportation from the airport to Lakeland College. See travelling to Canada for more details.

- valid study permit
- valid passport
- temporary resident visa
- official acceptance letter from Lakeland College
- proof of available funds
- credit card(s)
- identification document with photo
- driver’s license or international drivers license
- medical and immunization records
- medical Insurance documents

There are several major Canadian banks in our campus communities, but not all of the banks are in both communities (locations are noted below) Learn more about setting up an account as an international student from these websites.
- Bank of Montreal (BMO) - a branch is located in Lloydminster
- Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC) - branches are located in Lloydminster & Vermilion
- Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) - a branch is located in Lloydminster
- Scotiabank - branches are located in Lloydminster & Vermilion
- TD Canada Trust - branches are located in Lloydminster & Vermilion
Wire transfer the most secure way to move your money from your home bank to a new bank in Canada.
A bank draft or travellers' cheques are options, but both can be lost. Under no circumstances should you bring large amounts of cash.
