Facility Update July 1, 2021 

With Stage 3 of Alberta’s Open for Summer plan commencing on July 1st, we have adjusted the guidelines for our facility. 

  • If you have been outside the country in the last 14 days
  • Have you been in close contact with someone with a confirmed or probable case of COVID 19
  • Do you have a fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose or shortness of breath or loss of taste of smell
  • If you answered yes to any of these questions, we ask that you do not visit our facility
  • Help prevent the spread of COVID 19 and other illnesses.

Patrons will no longer have to book sessions for the weight room, gymnasium, or pool and there will no longer be a time limit on your visits.

For July, we are asking that patrons continue to stop at the front desk to give your name and number.

To keep our facility clean, please remove outside shoes at the front and leave them on the boot rack provided. 

We ask that you still sanitize your hands upon entering the building. 

Our hours of operation will be:

6:00 am to 9:00 pm (We will be closed from 2:00 - 2:15 pm to do a mid-day cleaning of equipment


11:00 am to 5:00 pm

Masks are no longer required but we respect those who choose to continue wearing them. 

Please continue to wipe down equipment before and after use. 

Rules for spotting, circuit training, and supersets have been removed. 

Where possible, please continue to practice social distancing. 

Our locker rooms will now be available for use. Please bring your lock for day use.  DO NOT leave your belongings in an unlocked locker.

About the Recreation Centre

Vermilion's recreation centre is the place to keep energized throughout the year.
Students, staff and community are all welcome. Individual and corporate rates are available for everything from swimming laps to walking on the treadmill, and from doing a circuit in the weight room to a noon hour squash game.
As a student, your access is your student ID.

Colonel Cormack Recreation Centre
The Colonel Cormack Recreation Centre on the Vermilion campus is a busy place seven days a week.

  • Full facility corporate passes are available to businesses in Vermilion and surrounding areas. These passes are sold a one year all-inclusive basis only. 
  • Businesses who wish to purchase these packages may purchase them in 5, 10, 15 or more person blocks.

Colonel Cormack Recreation Centre Facility Update - March 18, 2020
The Colonel Cormack recreation centre will be closed effective immediately this includes all parts of the complex including swimming pool, gymnasium, weight room and all programs. Only Lakeland College academic programs will continue to run virtually.

Why are the facilities closed to the public?
As part of our ongoing prevention response to the COVID-19 virus, along with the Government of Alberta’s direction and for the safety of our staff, students and patrons, we have closed the recreation centre to public use.

When will Recreation Facilities be re-opened to the public?
We currently do not have a re-open date, please check our website and social media pages for all updates.

How will this affect my recreation centre Membership?
All memberships including annual, corporate and monthly and punch card pass holders will be put on hold effective March 16, 2020. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the recreation centre  at

Can I cancel my Membership?
If you have questions or concerns around canceling your membership, contact the recreation centre at
I'm/my child is currently registered for programming, how will we be compensated for this?
All programs currently running will receive a prorated credit for the remaining classes. This includes fitness classes and swim lessons.  If we can't determine a reasonalbe timeline to use the credit, refunds can be requested through the recreation centre office.

How does this affect user group bookings such as pool rentals, birthday parties etc.?
All immediate user group bookings are canceled. The recreation centre staff will be reaching out to those who have made bookings.  Refunds can be requested through the recreation centre administration office.

Other Gym Guidelines

  • Only pickleball and badminton are allowed in Core cohort groups.
  • Basketball and volleyball will only be allowed in family or household cohort groups.
  • Floor hockey is not currently allowed

Fitness Facility Guidance for Core Cohorts

Core cohorts can include up to 15 additional people from outside of your household. This includes
  • everyone you live with (household members)
  • immediate family
  • closest tight knit social circle
  • those who are part of your daily or regular routines
You should only belong to one core cohort. Please keep it small for as much safety as possible.
