The northern lights shined on Lakeland College’s students last week as more than 400 guests attended the 2015 President’s Gala presented by Synergy Credit Union in support of the student award program
Final numbers are still being tallied from the March 27 event, but it is anticipated that the third annual President’s Gala will indeed be a very successful fundraiser. All proceeds raised will enable the creation of scholarships, awards and bursaries needed to make the cost of a post-secondary education more manageable for Lakeland students.

“We are so grateful for the overwhelming generosity from our sponsors and for the incredible support from everyone who attended the sold-out event,” says Alice Wainwright-Stewart, interim president and CEO. “The President’s Gala united our corporate partners, alumni and friends of the college in celebration and support of Lakeland’s number one priority – the students. Together we are making a difference in the lives of our students and investing in their future as well as the future of our region.”

Held at the Lloydminster campus, gala guests were transported to a winter wonderland inspired by the northern lights. They dined on a four-course meal complete with table service. Jared Borzel, a university transfer student, and Chrystal Casper, an animal health technology student, served as emcees for the evening.

The event also featured a live auction with destination vacations, original artwork, student projects and more plus a silent auction and Luxury Package Raffle. The evening was capped off with live entertainment from Canadian power-couple Raine Maida, of Our Lady Peace, and singer-songwriter Chantal Kreviazuk. Together, they performed for the first time in Lloydminster.

Dr. Richard Starke, MLA for the Vermilion-Lloydminster constituency, told guests that Lakeland College is an outstanding post-secondary institution that is critical not only to the local constituency and Alberta, but also Canada and beyond. He cited the Student Managed Farm – Powered by New Holland, the Emergency Training Centre and the Centre for Sustainable Innovation among Lakeland’s many strengths. He thanked everyone for attending the event and ultimately supporting students by increasing the college’s awards program.

Rob Saunders, Mayor of the City of Lloydminster and a proud Lakeland alumnus, told guests that the gala was an opportunity to celebrate students while also bringing the support of various people together to ensure “that everyone gets an opportunity for post-secondary education.”

Lakeland College thanks all of the 2015 President’s Gala sponsors for their commitment to education and student success.

“We are truly humbled by the support shown by our corporate partners for the President’s Gala,” says Wainwright-Stewart. “In their third year of supporting the gala, Synergy Credit Union increased their contribution as the Presenting Sponsor. Their generosity will enrich the future of our motivated and skilled students. Thank you to all of our sponsors for helping us host a memorable and successful event in support of our students.”
