Two Lakeland College apprentices earned podium spots at the 2019 Alberta Provincial Skills Canada Competition (PSCC) on May 9.

“To all our students who competed in the 2019 PSCC, I would like to congratulate you for representing Lakeland College. We're all so proud of everyone for stepping up to compete in this outstanding event. This is a testament to their dedication and passion for the career they've chosen," says Dave King, dean of trades and technology.

After two days of intense competition, Derek Haggart and Braden Hunka, automotive service technician apprentices, earned silver and bronze, respectively, in the automobile technology category. Haggart won bronze last year and received the 2017 Provincial Safety Award in the same category.

Three other Lakeland students were recognized at the PSCC with 2019 Provincial Safety Awards for demonstrating common safety practices with the highest regard: Tianna Todd, hairstyling, Bethany Brown, esthetician, and Adam Benson, automotive service technician.

“This experience will follow them throughout their time as a top contributor to Alberta's economy, as well as an ambassador for Lakeland. Thank you to the families and employers for their dedication to our students. Without their commitment, these students would not be able to succeed,” King says.
