Lakeland College's School of Environmental Sciences is preparing to host its first annual Conference on Environmental Management on Tuesday, Feb. 26.
Featuring a variety of industry experts and Lakeland student capstone presentations, the event is shaping up to be a day of learning and networking for professionals and students alike.
“We are excited to host the 2019 Conference on Environmental Management. This is an opportunity for us to raise the profile of our students and the innovative work they do while on practicum,” says Dr. Nicole Nadorozny, a Lakeland College environmental sciences instructor and practicum coordinator. “We have a dynamic lineup of industry speakers who will share their environmental sciences work too.”
Hosted by students in the bachelor of applied science: environmental management (BASEM) program, the Conference on Environmental Management will feature:
- Experts in the field, including Dr. Craig Farnden from Syncrude and Mike Burak from the Nature Conservancy of Canada, who will share emerging approaches in environmental management that are moving science forward in reclamation and conservation;
- ECO Canada's Dr. Yogendra Chaudhry who will discuss funding opportunities available to host agencies and industry partners hiring practicum students and new graduates; and
- David Lloyd, from the Alberta Institute of Agrologists (AIA), who will share what it means to be an AIA member.
Second-year BASEM students will also share their capstone project presentations, which cover a diverse range of topics, including:

- M.D. of Bonnyville's bioengineering technologies that protect shorelines along Crane Lake, Alta.
