Lakeland College is pleased to welcome Doreen McCaw to its Board of Governors.
“On behalf of Lakeland College's Board of Governors, I am happy to announce the appointment of Doreen McCaw to our board. Doreen's strong connections to the community, valuable insight and expertise will be an asset to the college. We are pleased to have her as part of our Lakeland community,” says Scott Webb, chair of Lakeland's Board of Governors.
McCaw was appointed to the board as a public member for a three-year term by the Government of Alberta.
“Lakeland College has always been a cornerstone of our community and of adult education,” says McCaw. “Education changes people's lives and having local access to post-secondary learning is a regional success.”
McCaw has been a resident of Lloydminster for more than 40 years. Though semi-retired, highlights from her resumé include being a managing partner of McCaw Funeral Service for 30 years, a former CEO of a large non-profit organization and a successful entrepreneur.
Over the years, McCaw has volunteered for a number of organizations in Lloydminster and Vermilion. McCaw served on the board of FOCUS of Vermilion/Lloydminster and the Lloydminster Community Youth Centre. She was the vice president of the Regional Business Accelerator - now Startup Lloydminster - and has recently completed her final term as a board member. McCaw is the current president of the Lloydminster Learning Council Association and co-chair of the Sirens and Sapphires Gala - a major fundraiser for the Lloydminster Rescue Squad. She is part of the founding group that started Ignite YLL, a women's leadership network, and is also a charter member and president of the Border City Rotary Club.
“Life has taught me that there are two important components to education, one teaches how to make a living and the other how to live. It is so important to model how to serve and contribute. Giving makes life meaningful and it helps you to look beyond yourself to something bigger,” says McCaw. “Over the course of my life and career I've served in a number of ways locally. My appointment to the Lakeland College board is an exciting opportunity to serve regionally.”
McCaw's first goal as a newly appointed board member is to learn more about the board, as well as her role and responsibilities so that she can fully contribute to its operation.
“It's important, when serving at a board level, to understand who it is that we are ultimately serving. We must ensure we are on track with achieving our goals and representing the public's best interests,” says McCaw, noting she's excited to be part of the board's community engagement committee.
McCaw succeeds Jenelle Saskiw as a new public member.

- Dr. Alice Wainwright-Stewart, president and chief executive officer.
As of May 1, Merle Klumph replaces Debbie Holden as the non-academic staff member. On June 1, two students - Quinn Hlus, bachelor of applied science: environmental management, and Matt Peck, bachelor of commerce - will join the board as student representatives, pending an order-in-council from the Government of Alberta.
