Lakeland College officially unveiled its new mission, vision and values during events at the Vermilion campus and Lloydminster campus in December.
The development of the mission, vision and values (MVV) was a few years in the making but it was time well spent, says Dr. Alice Wainwright-Stewart, president of Lakeland College.
“When I was asked by our board a few years ago to create a new mission, vision and values, I knew this had to be an inclusive process to ensure that the statements we developed accurately reflect who we are and what we do at Lakeland,” she says.
First, hundreds of employees, students, industry representatives and community members
shared their MVV ideas at sessions. Those ideas were distilled into a mission, vision
and values:
- Mission: To inspire lifelong learning and leadership through experience, excellence and innovation.
-
Vision: Transforming the future through innovative learning.
-
Values: Learner success, integrity, respect, community, excellence and innovation.
During the past 18 months, a cross-functional team of employees developed definitions and guiding behaviours for the values.“My thanks to everyone on our cross-functional team for their work in defining our
values. Each member was very invested in the process. I appreciated how open and inclusive
the discussions were. There was a lot of debate but everyone was focused on creating
definitions and guiding behaviours that can guide the way we conduct business and
treat our students, colleagues and clients,” says Wainwright-Stewart.
Here is a video featuring staff and students discussing the values, which was shown during the MVV launch celebrations.
