Applied research came first in our history.
Before the Vermilion School of Agriculture, there was a demonstration farm where the college was established. We have come a long way since then. Now, we have a dedicated research centre with multiple facilities on-site where you can see our research projects in action.
Our strategic priorities focus on advancing research that is responsive, collaborative and aligned with our institutional strengths. Our tactical focus is to advance agriculture innovation, environmental stewardship, and technology-enabled solutions to transform the future of the agriculture industry.
Applied research focuses on seven strategic directions:
- Ensure research capacity delivers research results through strategic collaborations, investments in infrastructure and talent attraction.
- Promote industry adoption and on-farm implementation of research findings through knowledge transfer, demonstrations, and extension activities.
- Enhance the student learning experience, academic excellence, and training of a skilled workforce through engagement with students and faculty.
- Investigate promising tools, technology, and innovations to drive strategic advances that enhance the environmental, social, and economic sustainability of the agriculture industry.
- Develop, optimize, evaluate, and validate products, strategies, and management practices that consider our geographical context to enhance livestock and field crop production efficiencies.
- Offer high quality, science-based and unbiased research services to enhance the productivity, profitability and sustainability of our industry partners and provide validation for producers to make informed decisions.
- Enhance the environmental sustainability and social responsibility of the agriculture industry through responsible management of natural resources and care of livestock.
