A podium with three Skills Alberta winners on itLakeland College apprentice Braden Kereliuk has earned his second consecutive gold medal at the Provincial Skills Canada Alberta Competition.

Kereliuk won gold in the steamfitter-pipefitter category at the 2026 Provincial Skills Canada Alberta Competition, held May 6-7 at the Edmonton EXPO Centre. He secured a spot on Team Alberta for the Skills Canada National Competition and will compete again in Toronto, May 27-30.

“Braden’s second straight gold medal is an incredible accomplishment and reflects the dedication, skill and work ethic he brings to his trade,” says Dave King, dean of Lakeland College’s School of Trades and Technology. “We’re proud of all our students who competed at provincials and represented Lakeland so well. Best of luck to Braden as he competes in Toronto later this month!”

Lakeland sent 11 students to compete across seven categories at this year’s provincial competition. Other Lakeland competitors include:

  • Automobile technology - Drew Dutertre and Connor Balash
  • Carpentry - Deyton Selte
  • Electrical installations - Alexandre Lacasse
  • Heavy equipment technology - Curt Dyberg and Ethan Randell
  • Esthetics - Pearl Clarke and Brooke Bender
  • Hairstyling - Kara Delisle and Breanna Dyck

Participation in Skills Canada events aligns with Lakeland College’s commitment to applied learning opportunities that reflect industry standards and workplace expectations.

Lakeland’s apprenticeship programs include carpenter, automotive service technician, electrician, heavy equipment technician, parts technician, steamfitter-pipefitter and welder. Programs offered through Lakeland’s spa and salon include esthetician, hairstyling, health care aide, clinical esthetician and barber.
