Dr. Obi Durunna at livestock dayFrom the latest research results to the newest livestock projects, Lakeland College is inviting producers, industry representatives and anyone interested in livestock production to Research for the Ranch: Livestock Field Day on Oct. 22.

Hosted by Lakeland College Applied Research, the event will bring together livestock producers, researchers, students and industry representatives for a day of learning, collaboration and connection at the college’s Student-Managed Farm – Powered by New Holland.

“Research for the Ranch is an opportunity to connect the work happening at Lakeland with the people who can put that knowledge into practice,” says Francois Paradis, dean of applied research at Lakeland. “We’re excited to share updates on our projects, share the latest in livestock research, show people around our research facilities and bring together people who are passionate about advancing the livestock industry.”

Attendees will hear updates on Lakeland’s livestock research projects, gaining insight into the applied research underway at the college and its potential benefits for the industry. They will also hear from industry experts on pasture rejuvenation using drone spraying and insights into the RDAR funded Alberta pasture quality project undertaken by Blue Rock Animal Nutrition.

Current livestock research projects underway include:

  • Pasture water quality monitoring in drought-prone regions of eastern Alberta
  • Virtual fencing collars on bison
  • Nature’s Net Wrap
  • Winter swathgrazing

Beyond the research updates, the field day offers opportunities for producers, students, researchers and industry representatives to exchange ideas, ask questions and make connections that could lead to future collaborations.
