At Lakeland College, we consider transfer credit from all accredited post-secondary institutions and on a case-by-case basis from non-accredited institutions.
Course work must be:
- successfully completed at a recognized or accredited post-secondary institution.
- relevant to the program you apply to.
Transfer credit will be awarded for equivalent credit course work if the final course grade is at least equivalent to the graduating GPA grade. This is a C grade in most programs. See Procedure 5.61.
Transfer credit may not be granted for work completed more than seven years prior to the date of your request.
If you've attended another post-secondary institution and would like credit for the courses you took there, follow these steps:
- Submit an application for admission to Lakeland College.
- Complete and submit a transfer credit form to the Office of the Registrar (at least two months before your course starts).
- For transfer credit, an official transcript must be submitted from the issuing institution.
- You may need to submit course outlines and additional documentation, if requested.
Other considerations
International students may also apply for a transfer credit from an accredited Canadian post-secondary before they start at Lakeland College.

Transfer credit is one way Lakeland College acknowledges prior learning. The others are course substitution and prior learning assessment and recognition.
Note: Some of our programs have a certain percentage residency requirement. This may mean you only get credit for some courses because you have to take a certain amount of credits at Lakeland in order to earn your certificate, diploma or applied degree.
