Once you're accepted at Lakeland College, these are your next steps.
- A $1,500 non-refundable deposit holds your seat. Your acceptance letter will tell you when it’s due.
- It is easy to pay your tuition deposit, program fees, residence application fee, or residence rent fees. Use Flywire. Flywire allows you to pay securely from almost any country and any bank, typically in your home currency, and allows you to track your payment through email or text notifications.
- Payment of your tuition deposit will initiate the request for your Provincial Attestation Letter. The Provincial Attestation Letter will be emailed to you from MyCreds.
- Failure to pay the tuition deposit on time will result in the cancellation of your admission.
- The tuition deposit is non-refundable and non-transferable to future terms.
- As a part of your study permit application, you may be required to pay more than just the deposit fee. Your letter will include the total amount payable for first and second semester.
- Make sure you check the study permit processing times and apply early.
- Email your study permit approval to international@lakelandcollege.ca by the due date in your acceptance letter.
- Failure to meet this condition will cancel your admission.
You only need to complete this step if your program requires a study permit and a co-op work permit. Your admission letter will note this.
- The co-op work permit will be issued when you enter Canada. Be sure to ask the border officer who processes your study permit to also issue a work permit.
- For some programs, you will need this permit within a few weeks of beginning classes. If you do not have it your graduation may be postponed.
You only need to complete this step if you are taking a Human Services program or
the Health Care Aide program.
- The original police clearance certificate is a legal requirement to go on practicum.
- Some programs require specific immunizations and certificates.
- Your Letter of Acceptance and program page will let you know what is required.
- Practicums are a valuable opportunity to gain work experience and are mandatory for graduation.
- Getting to your work placement is your responsibility. Neither of our campus locations have public transportation (bus service). We cannot guarantee that your workplace practicum will be within walking distance or even in the same community.
- If your study permit is denied, you may be eligible for a $1,000 partial refund of the tuition deposit ($500 is not refundable) and a full refund of your remaining program fees.
- To be eligible for the partial tuition deposit refund, email a Refund Request Form, with the denial letter to admissions@lakelandcollege.ca. This form and the document must be submitted within 4 weeks of the date your denial letter was issued. Refund forms are not accepted after 4 weeks past registration day.
- If you decide not to attend Lakeland College, please email international@lakelandcollege.ca or admissions@lakelandcollege.ca. We will refund program and tuition fees, less the full $1,500 non-refundable tuition deposit.
- We do not defer applications or tuition deposits.
- Review your program details and course descriptions to ensure it is the right fit. To find this information, select your program from the program finder on our website. If you discover that your program choice is not suited to you, please let us know. If there is space in another program beginning the same term and you are qualified, you may be able to switch.
- Applicants are eligible for one program change request before Registration Day.
- If you would like to live on campus, you must apply and pay the required fees. Since residence accommodations are limited, we strongly recommend that you apply as soon as possible. A link to our online application system is in your acceptance email. See the residence page for more info.
- Our communities offer various rental opportunities. Please visit our page for other housing options.
- International students are required to have adequate health insurance coverage before registration day.
- Guard.me health insurance is mandatory for all international students. Lakeland College has arranged for coverage and the fees are included in your mandatory non-instructional fees.
- Coverage begins on your registration day and will be emailed to you shortly after.
- If you wish to purchase additional coverage for you or your family members, please visit the GuardMe microsite.
- All programs at Lakeland have specialized supplies/equipment you will need to purchase.
- You will receive an email with a link to your supply lists. You can also view our textbooks and supplies page.
- We recommend you wait until the first week of classes to purchase your textbooks.
- Although a driver’s license is not a requirement to attend Lakeland, you may need one for employment or practicum.
- Obtain an international driving permit (IDP) before you leave your home country so you’re able to drive in Canada. For more information on obtaining a Canadian driver’s license, go to the Service Alberta website.
- Lakeland organizes an orientation event for all international students.
- You will be emailed information about the date and time and reminded at the pre-departure session.
- Book your flight to arrive at least the day before this event.
