Get ready for convocation

The dates have been set for Convocation 2027:

  • Friday, May 28, 2027 – Lloydminster campus
  • Friday, June 4, 2027 – Vermilion campus

Along with recognizing our graduates, we have the following traditions at our convocation ceremonies:

  • All the faculty are on the stage to congratulate each graduate as they receive their credential.
  • We recognize generational alumni. New graduates whose parents, grandparents and or great-grandparents are alumni are introduced.
  • The academic recessional concludes with faculty, board members and senior staff lining the hallway and clapping for the graduates as they exit.
  • Our newest tradition is a ceremonial prayer from an elder and honour song at the beginning of each convocation.

If it's determined you aren't eligible to graduate at this time, your academic advisor or program chair will be in contact with you.

If you're unable to attend the ceremony, please let us know:

Convocation ceremonies usually run just under two hours.

Convocation is a formal event, please dress accordingly.

Please reach out to kyla.graham@lakelandcollege.ca as soon as you can so we can help organize the accommodations you need.

There's no limit to the number of guests you can bring, however, seating is limited and on a first come, first seated basis.

Due to the nature and length of the program, we recommend leaving little ones at home.

For the afternoon ceremony in Vermilion, doors open at 1 pm for guests.

Lakeland College staff photographers will take photos before, during and after the ceremonies. Those photos are available on Flickr where they can be viewed and downloaded for free.

Your guests are welcome to take pictures before, during and after the ceremonies. They can come close while you're on the stage.

There will be a photographer on site before and after the ceremonies to take portraits of you in your cap and gown and with family and friends. There's no obligation to purchase any photos, fees are payable at time of session to the photographer. For more information, contact reimaginedportraitart@gmail.com. 

All ceremonies will be livestreamed through YouTube.

For family unable to attend in person, you can send them the link lakelandcollege.ca/grad to access the livestream.

The student with the highest academic standing on each campus receives the Governor General's medal.

President's Medals are presented at each campus convocation.

Graduates who are 2nd, 3rd and even 4th generation alumni are also recognized with generation pins.

Distinguished citizens or distinguished alumni are convocation speakers.

President's Circle inductees are honoured the day before convocation.

Each ceremony typically runs just under two hours. The program can be accessed through a QR code posted around the venue. For the afternoon ceremony in Vermilion, doors open at 1 pm.

There's no limit to the number of guests that can attend, but seating is first come, first seated.

After the ceremony, join the celebration at convocation tea. Everyone is welcome for this opportunity for family and friends to meet classmates and instructors.

  • In Lloydminster, the tea takes place immediately after the ceremony in the Servus Credit Union Hospitality Centre.
  • In Vermilion, the tea takes place after the morning ceremony and before the afternoon ceremony in the Mead Building.

Fresh roses (singles, 3-packs, 6-packs and dozen bouquets) are available from 1913 at Lakeland (campus store). These are the perfect way to celebrate the big day.

Want to make the day extra special for your grad? 1913 at Lakeland will also have:

  • diploma frames
  • grad teddy bears
  • Lakeland apparel and merchandise
  • Gifts, cold water and tissues – because convocation is emotional

Family and friends are welcome to take photos before, during and after the ceremonies. Please come up close when your loved one is on the stage.

Lakeland staff photographers will also be covering the event. Those photos will be available on Flickr where they can be viewed and downloaded for free.

All convocation ceremonies are livedstreamed and available for anyone unable to attend in person.

Applications

Before the deadline, you need to apply to graduate on My Lakeland. If you're on track to graduate, you will receive an email when applications open, with the deadline. 

Generally, the application for fall graduation is open from mid-November to mid-December. The application for winter and spring graduation typically opens in March. 

If you're applying outside of these times or missed the deadline, you can still request your academic record to be reviewed so you can receive your parchment. Please email records@lakelandcollege.ca.
