Frequently Asked Questions

If you plan to stay at Lakeland College, you'll complete your degree through the  Athabasca University (AU) Collaboration Program. Please follow these steps:

  1. Meet with the Business Academic Advisor
    • Before applying, book an advising appointment. You and the academic advisor will discuss and complete the AU application together.
  2. Submit your AU application
    • During or after your advising session, submit your AU Undergraduate General Application Form to your advisor who will submit it to AU. You will then contact AU to pay the application fee. This process will waive your transcript evaluation fee.
  3. Submit your final official transcript
    • Once you've officially graduated from Lakeland College, request your final transcript with your graduation statement. Visit our Request a Transcript page to learn more.
    • AU cannot fully evaluate your file without a transcript showing that your diploma has been awarded.

If you're planning to finish your degree at another university, follow these steps:

  1. Apply to the university before their deadline
    • Each institution has different intakes and closing dates. Check the university's admissions timeline well in advance.
  2. Review the university's transfer credit process
    • Research how the institution evaluates transfer credit, including:
      • required documents
      • timelines
      • whether course outlines or syllabi are needed
      • maximum transfer credit allowed
  3. Submit your official Lakeland College transcript
    • Request your final transcript, ensuring it includes your graduation statement.
    • Universities typically require this to finalize admissions and transfer credit decisions.

The Business diploma at Lakeland College has several block transfer options. You can see these options under the "further study" section within each diploma program major page.

If you change your mind at any point, contact your academic advisor to discuss changes to your course selection and/or to adjust your program plan.

If you successfully complete the following 10 courses, you're eligible to apply to graduate with a business administration certificate:

  • AC 130
  • AC 230
  • BA 120
  • CO 131
  • CO 231
  • EC 111
  • EC 211
  • CU 248
  • MK 170
  • MA 101

Contact your academic advisor to complete the necessary form to graduate with the certificate.

A certificate program has 10 three-credit courses that provide a study in specific career-related areas. We offer an accounting technician certificate and a business administration certificate.

Also, if you only take one year of courses of the two required for a diploma and took the required 10 courses (30 credits), you may leave Lakeland with a business administration certificate. Contact your academic advisor to complete the necessary form to graduate with the certificate.

Class sizes usually are between 15 and 40 students.

Yes, transfer credit may be granted.

Lakeland College can accept external courses up to the residency requirement of the program. To be eligible for transfer credit, courses must:

  • Match at least 80% of the Lakeland College course content, which will be evaluated by a subject matter expert.
  • Have a minimum grade of 60% shown on the official transcript.

Please note that at least 50% of courses in a certificate program and 25% of courses in a diploma program must be completed at Lakeland College to meet residency requirements.

These programs include blended learning, which means some courses are available online, but you will need to be on campus for other courses. Full completion online is not available for these programs.
