1st year courses are available online. This allows you to take the whole 1st year online, or combine online and face-to-face courses. After you're accepted, you'll talk to the academic advisor about your options.

Open the door to a career in business with Lakeland's 1-year business administration certificate.

You can take the courses face-to-face on our Lloydminster campus or online. You also have the flexibility to do both. Take courses full-time or earn while you learn and take them part-time.

This certificate is for you if:

  • you want to explore a variety of business specialities
  • you want a broad range of business courses
  • you want to get into the workforce in a year
  • you want to get courses to help you earn other certification such as a Blue Seal if you’re a journeyperson. Contact the business enrolment specialist for more information.

If you discover an interest in a particular area, such as accounting or marketing, you can stay at Lakeland. Choose from one of our 5 diploma majors, and even go on to earn a degree.

Remember that studying includes other expenses than tuition and fees - you should also be budgeting for your accommodation and living expenses. Alberta student loan guidelines recommends $1,153/month.

Your weekly class schedule can be found on your My Lakeland student portal when available. This is usually one month prior to the program start date.

Important dates found below include your tuition due date, your program registration/start date, events and holidays.

  1. If you plan to take courses part-time, you still need to apply to the program and discuss your options with the academic advisor.
  2. After year 1, you'll meet with your academic advisor to register for year 2 courses and create your year 2 course schedule.
  3. The academic schedule is the same for full-time online and full-time face-to-face.

Options at Lakeland

  • Stay another year to earn a business administration diploma. Choose the best major for you:
    •  accounting
    • general business
    • marketing
    • real estate appraisal and assessment
    • small business and entrepreneurship
  • After earning a diploma, stay 1 or 2 more years and earn a degree through our collaborative program with Athabasca University.
  • Blue Seal
    • Journeypersons looking to earn their Achievement in Business Competencies Program, also known as Blue Seal, may take courses in our 1-year general business certificate.
    • You'll need at least 4 courses to reach the minimum 150 hours to earn a Blue Seal.
    • If you have the academic requirements, you could earn the certificate.

Other transfer options

Even if Lakeland doesn't have a block transfer agreement, your course credits open doors to many other colleges, polytechnics and universities. 

The easiest way to transfer is within Alberta. Lakeland College is one of 41 members of the Alberta Transfer and Pathways System. Explore your options on Transfer Alberta.

You could transfer somewhere else in Alberta, Western Canada, Canada or even internationally.

Yes, each course has an instructor that is available to help you. You can email questions and set up appointments or virtual meetings with them during their office hours.

Yes. You'll pay comprehensive fees that give you access to all of our supports and services.

Yes. Your academic advisor will help you pick which courses and how many courses you want to take per semester.

You can take a maximum of 7 of the online classes. The rest will have to be taken face-to-face.

If you are enrolled in 3 or more courses per semester, you are eligible for a student loan.
