Course Description: This course focuses on:
  • inspecting, maintaining, servicing and hydrostatic testing of fire extinguishers,
  • recognizing standards for the selection and installation of extinguishers
  • learning how to set up, maintain and manage proper fire extinguisher records and inspection tags.

This course is approved by the Fire Technical Council as meeting the requirements for a certificate of training as per the Alberta Fire Code. Successful students will be awarded a Fire Extinguisher Inspection and Maintenance Certificate.

Course Description: This 4-hour course is for administration staff and lay people. You will learn
  • the components of the fire tetrahedron
  • different types of fire
  • classes of extinguishers and their rating system
  • the PASS (pull, aim, squeeze and sweep) method of using portable extinguishers.
  • how to extinguish small Class A and Class B fires with a 1 kg multipurpose extinguisher
  • to recognize the limitations of small portable fire extinguishers
