The Indigenous Student Council a place where students collaborate and create a sense of community.

The council is an official Lakeland College Students' Association club. It consists of members from both campuses, including 2 presidents. The council meets biweekly.

With Indigenous support services, Council members coordinate activities and events, including:

  • Maker's Markets
  • Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW) walks
  • Aboriginal Awareness days

They also fundraise for a year-end cultural trip. The trip allows members to explore and learn more about their identities.

The council has an advisory role at Lakeland College. Lakeland actively seeks their opinions and guidance on a variety of important matters:

  • convocation
  • ceremonies
  • cultural protocols
  • and other initiatives that impact Indigenous students and the college community

Their perspectives help ensure that events and practices are inclusive, respectful and reflective of Indigenous cultures and traditions.
