Introductory American Sign Language
Start learning American Sign Language online with Lakeland College.
Whether you're adding to your professional or personal skills, try our introductory ASL courses: ASL 101 Level 1 Part A and ASL 102 Level 1 Part B.
These courses are part of our American Sign Language and Deaf Culture Studies certificate program.
ASL 101 American Sign Language Level 1 Part A is an introductory course to both American Sign Language (ASL) and deaf culture.
You'll learn how to have basic conversations, as well as appropriate behaviour when interacting within the deaf culture.
This is the prerequisite for ASL 102 Level 1, Part B. This continues what was started in ASL 101. Uses the same textbook.
In this course, students are introduced to American Sign Language (ASL), its culture, and to the community of Deaf persons who use this language. Students learn how to have basic conversations as well as use appropriate behaviours within the Deaf Community.
Prerequisite: ASL 101
