How your academic advisor can help
You'll connect with your academic advisor before classes begin to ensure a smooth start. After your acceptance and paying your tuition deposit, you'll be contacted to schedule an appointment. For Fall intake, expect contact by late May; for Winter intake, expect contact by late November.
You’ll work together to choose the classes that fit your plan and create a comfortable timetable.
If you come for a second year, you’ll do the same thing.
If you change your mind about a route, then the advisor is there to help you understand your options and guide you in making a decision.
What you can learn and how the advisor helps you:
- benefits of a degree path through Lakeland College
- popular university transfer routes and receiving institution information
- understanding transfer terminology
- how to choose university transfer classes and make your timetable
- using academic calendars and how transfer credit works
- info sessions and events
- useful websites and resources
If you're interested in our university transfer program, please start by contacting the enrolment specialist.
What you should know about transfers
It is very important to understand that completing university transfer courses doesn't guarantee you admission to degree programs at universities.
Your advisor will help you move through all the steps, but the academic side is up to you.
You must also meet all the admission requirements of the degree-granting institution. This may include:
- specific high school courses.
- competitive admission average - there may be quotas for the number of students admitted to the degree program at the receiving institution.
- a minimum grade for transfer - some receiving institutions specify a minimum grade for transfer credit.
- the number of available seats in a program - if you change your program or your receiving institution, be aware that there may not be room in the new program.
- residency - taking the required percentage of courses at the university (typically 50%).
