Prescribed Fire

We are partnering with the Canadian Prairies Prescribed Fire Exchange to offer an introduction to prescribed fire course, the first of its kind in Alberta.

This course will take place across three days, introducing you to prescribed fire. Designed for those with minimal experience, you'll learn how to:

  • act as a crew member within a prescribed fire
  • safely participate in prescribed fires
  • demonstrate safe and effective uses of Fireline equipment

Dates: May 20 - 22, 2026

Delivery: In-person at Lakeland College's Vermilion campus

Prerequisites:

Gear:

  • Nomex clothing or equivalent fire-resistant clothes
  • All leather gloves
  • Eye protection
  • Hard hat with ear protection

Participants are asked to bring their own PPE but limited PPE is available if you do not have your own.

Cost: $300 (includes course materials and lunches for the three day event)
